We love shopping at Eastern Market all year long (especially to get cheese from R. Hirt Jr., soup at Russell Street Deli, and McClure's Pickles - yum!) but at this time of year we start getting super excited for leisurely Saturdays riding our bikes there, eating breakfast, buying produce and flowers, and running into everyone we know!
Tell us your favorite thing about the market - leave it in a comment below to be entered in our giveaway to win one of our Detroit Map Totes (perfect for toting home your market haul!). We'll select a winner at random on 4/21.

I'm a big fan of getting bulk goods and candies at Rocky Peanut Company. To be honest, I love the entire Eastern Market experience, but the simple fact that my wife and I get get sugar, spice and everything nice in bulk just around the corner from our house is awesome!
Our favorite thing about Eastern Market is flower day!
eastern market sounds! especially walking/riding my bike down russell. it's always so lively, love it.
I love the atmosphere of Eastern Market. I enjoy going on nice days and just walking around, taking everything in. I'm into photography, so I always go with my camera around my neck. I end up always having many great shots, thanks to the colors and interesting people that always inhabit Eastern Market.
My favorite thing about Eastern Market? There are too many to list. Meeting so many local entrepreneurs with great products that my family enjoys. Buying fresh fruits and vegetables. Getting just the right flowers to plant. Listening and watching people perform their artistic talents. Love the improvements that have taken place and are continuing to help make it great. Best of all, it's in Detroit.
Hurt Co. cheeses!
Because cheese and wine are my weaknesses, Cost Plus and R. Hirt serve my needs well :-)
I love seeing a ton of people congregating in one place and running into friends. Not to mention the scent of fresh herbs and flowers!
I buy just about all my produce from Eastern Market. Love the freshness and the low prices!
i have always loved eastern market - for the atmosphere, everyone is always so happy and friendly, luv when the grill is out at bert;s - but last fall, we brought the whole family down. we walked the market, picking all our favorites. we ate and laughed and decided to walk the dequindre cut. headed down to the riverwalk, thru the ren cen to the ppl mover, out at greektown and walked back to eastern market. so many sights and sounds and laughs along the way. it will never be forgotten, and it all started with a trip to eastern mkt.
I'm a big fan of supporting local farmers and growers at Eastern Market. It is critical we make an effort to help these people in this economy. It is also much more cost-effective and healthier to shop at Eastern Market than buying processed and non-organic foods at large-chain grocery stores! Plus, the atmosphere of Eastern Market makes the experience so much fun!
I LOVE everything about Eastern Market...the atmosphere, the local food, the friendly farmers, the coffee, the spices, the wine, the cheese..the list goes on. It has been so great to see the transformation it has made in the last couple of years and I can't wait to see what it will look like when they are done!
My favorite thing about Eastern Market? The Gratiot Central Meats building. Never have I seen so many amazing cuts of meat in my life. You can get every cut of meat you could possibly imagine and more. And that is a fantastic thing in my mind especially since we're just getting into "grilling" season and I can finally stop worrying about what to feed @mojodean for dinner and just throw something on the grill.
I love to see Detroit full of happy, busy people! I love the animated vendors and picking up the fruits and vegtables I will cook that night and talking to the people who grew them.
My favorite thing about Eastern Market is the chance to talk with people who actually grow what you buy. The farmers are nice enough to give tips on how to freeze, store, etc. Big box stores don't provide that level of service!
I love that I can get healthy foods for way less than grocery store. Plus, you don't see dogs in the grocery store.dr
the coffee cart
The guy with the giant BBQ!
All the different smells and getting flowers with my mom!
Eastern market is like walking through the market streets of Paris. Oo la la!!!
Saturday breakfast at the Russell Street Deli is my favorite.
